USA’s 30 Man Roster

Sorry about my lack of posting lately, I’m struggling with a questionable internet connection and a slate of late games for the Cardinals.  That’s a recipe for working and sleeping only.  Luckily, Weller has appeased the masses with his condemnation of cheerleading.  Anyway, on Tuesday afternoon the 30 man preliminary roster for the World Cup was announced.  There were no real major surprises but one omission did spark an awful lot of debate among US fans.

First, however, we’ll take a look at the roster in its entirety:

Cheerleading

Not a sport.

I have gotten into this debate multiple times in life, and was reminded of it this evening when eating at Cici’s Pizza and there was a table next to us full of girls and guys who appeared to be on some sort of athletic team together. I could easily guess this much as I had grown up being a member of countless sports teams and with them all being in athletic attire I figured it was a safe to assume that they had just gotten out of practice and decided to all go out to eat together. I did struggle at first though, trying to guess in my mind what kind of team they were on. They were much too old to be in some sort of little kid’s coed league (soccer, baseball, etc) where the boys and girls play with and against one another, so my next thought was track. Track was “my sport” in high school and I just didn’t get the track vibe from this group.

Wake Up, MLS

Last night I found this article on Yahoo! and well, it kind of made me mad.  As you know, I’m Missourian and I live in St. Louis.  The same St. Louis who desperately deserves an MLS Franchise but isn’t getting one.  I can’t quite understand why Don Garber keeps at team out of the Gateway to the West, but he does in favor of places like Montreal and a second team in Los Angeles.  I’m going to make a case for a team in St. Louis because to me, it’s all common sense.

First off, St. Louis is a soccer hotbed in this country.  Let’s just take a look at all the players who have come from the area:

Waiting for the World Cup

Alright, I would say I’ve been slacking (like normal) but in this case it has been anything but.  As you know, I started a new job with the St. Louis Cardinals last Wednesday and that has kept me extremely busy.  It has also made me leery of posting about things that are baseball related.  Not that anyone there knows I have a blog or that I would say anything derogatory toward the Cardinals, but I just figure it’s better that way.  Anyway, this post is not about that, it’s about soccer.  World Cup soccer.

I went to a 30 Seconds to Mars concert with a friend of mine last night and we got to talking about World Cup rosters.  Neither one of us knew when the deadline was for a roster announcement so I figured I’d look it up and share it with all you faithful readers.

Colts Rookie Camp 2010

The Colts rookie camp is this weekend, starting yesterday and going through Sunday. There had been an extreme lack of official news from the Colts about rookie free agent signings. They did finally announce yesterday though (on their website) who all the rookie free agents are.

The players attending the Colts Rookie Camp are… Continue reading
