College Football Week 3 – USC Can’t Beat Bad Teams Edition

Alright, I just made it home after Mizzou’s 52-12 destruction of the Furman Paladins.  Again, Blaine Gabbert is really good, folks.  Jump on his bandwagon now.

I was able to see Tennessee’s commendable effort against Florida.  All that talk of Florida handing Tennessee their worst loss in history and being able to name their score was nonsense.  The Vols’ defense is exceptional.  Too bad Jonathan Crompton won’t let UT win games.  The Gators will lose this game next year in Knoxville.

For the second year in a row USC has gone to the Northwest and lost.  This time it was Washington’s 16-13 victory in Seattle that kills the Trojans’ title hopes.  This is the same Washington team that went 0-12 last year.  Ouch.  How does USC ever lose?

#13 Virginia Tech just beat #19 Nebraska in one of the crazier games of the early season.  The Hokie fans rushed the field after the game.  Don’t they know they were ranked higher and it was just Nebraska?  Weird.  Anyway, it was a big win for the ACC who had struggled against the other BCS conferences this year.

Notre Dame pulled out a 33-30 victory against Michigan State at home.  I guess the Irish media BCS Blitz will be in full swing again?  I can’t wait.

Kentucky beat Louisville in the battle for Kentucky.  No one really cares unless they’re from Kentucky.

Oregon stopped #18 Utah’s 16-game winning streak.  Would it be safe to say that Oregon came out and punched the Utes in the mouth?

The Northern Illinois Huskies beat Purdue 28-21.  This is the same team who lost to Wisconsin by 8 in the first game of the year.  Not a bad showing from the MAC.

I’m going to go for a run to burn off all this tailgating food I ate, but I’ll be back to update the late games after a while.

Update:

I have to take a quick shot at our regular commenter who said at one point that he hates the Big 12 because he actually likes to see some defense.  Right now the Texas-Texas Tech game stands at 17-3, while Arkansas-Georgia is a 35-34 shootout.

This is more of the exception to the rule, but I had to do it.  Both games have been very fun to watch.
