Cleveland Cavaliers Get Shaq

Do you hear that distant noise? That’s Lebron James throwing a party.

The Cleveland Lebrons Cavs just got Shaquille O’Neal from the Phoenix Suns in a deal that will send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to the desert. The deal is just awaiting league approval and should be finalized at some point today (Thursday) and would put arguably the most dominant big man in history with arguably the best player currently in the league. The Suns will also get the 46th pick of today’s NBA draft as well as half of a million dollars.

Shaq, who was elected to his 15th All-Star game this year will help the Cavs out on defense with against players like Dwight Howard whose Orlando Magic team knocked the Cavs out of the playoffs this year. Shaq will also be going back to his jersey number from his LSU days, 33. Rumor is that the Cavs are also looking for an athletic player to play on the wing, are planning to resign power forward Anderson Varejao, and intend to make a big splash in next years loaded free agency pool.

There is a list of players that will be free agents next year that would tempt most any team. Prominent among them is Lebron James himself. It is without doubt that the Cavs hope that making these moves will keep Lebron in Cleveland. Some of the other notable names are Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd.

This was basically a move to open up some salary cap room for the Suns. They will be saving around 10 million dollars when all is said and done. It also looks as thought the Suns may be trying to start a rebuilding process.

  1. I might just have a new favorite NBA team. The deal would be sealed for me if they signed Paul Pierce!
