This is unfortunately the first baseball post I have written that doesn’t have some sort of joking nature to it. Hopefully it’s also the last. I don’t know a whole lot about what happened but apparently there was a hit and run car accident last night involving Nick Adenhart, a 22-year-old rookie pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels. The wreck took place after the teams loss to the Oakland Athletics, which I believe was only Adenhart’s fourth career start. Adenhart was taken to the UC-Irvine Medical Center where he died this morning after undergoing surgery just after midnight.
According to the LA Times a minivan ran a red light, hitting two vehicles including Adenhart’s. The driver of the minivan ran from the scene but was arrested about a mile away. Adenhart was one of three people who died from the car crash. The other two were pronounced dead at the scene while Adenhart and one other were taken to the UC-Irvine Medical Center. The other victim is said to be seriously injured. Bryan said that “(Adenhart) was gonna be great.”
Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, teammates, coaches and fans.
