Angels Rookie Pitcher Dies At Age 22

Nick Adenhart (1986-2009)

This is unfortunately the first baseball post I have written that doesn’t have some sort of joking nature to it. Hopefully it’s also the last. I don’t know a whole lot about what happened but apparently there was a hit and run car accident last night involving Nick Adenhart, a 22-year-old rookie pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels. The wreck took place after the teams loss to the Oakland Athletics, which I believe was only Adenhart’s fourth career start. Adenhart was taken to the UC-Irvine Medical Center where he died this morning after undergoing surgery just after midnight.

According to the LA Times a minivan ran a red light, hitting two vehicles including Adenhart’s. The driver of the minivan ran from the scene but was arrested about a mile away.  Adenhart was one of three people who died from the car crash. The other two were pronounced dead at the scene while Adenhart and one other were taken to the UC-Irvine Medical Center. The other victim is said to be seriously injured. Bryan said that “(Adenhart) was gonna be great.”

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, teammates, coaches and fans.

All I’ve read about it so far you can find here and here.

  1. That is sad news indeed. Just going along, minding your own business and WHAM! Lights out for three innocent people and a fourth seriously injured.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible time.

    Be careful out there.

  2. Boy, so much life yet to live. To have it snuffed out in the blink of an eye because of some senseless accident is hard to grasp.

My sentiments go out to his family, teammates, friends and fans.
