NBA All-Star Weekend

While I love Major League Baseball’s All-Star festivities, mainly because the game is played like a real game, I think the NBA may take the crown for the most entertaining All-Star break. In the game itself, no defense is played, but that is kind of fun in an NBA setting. Seeing all the alley-oops and 360 dunks is quite entertaining.

More fun might be the events that take place the night before. While I love baseball’s Home Run Derby, especially when Josh Hamilton does what he did last year in it, the NBA has cooked up a pretty good group of events. They have the Slam Dunk Contest, the 3-point shooting contest and the Skills Competition – where point guards run through a basketball-style obstacle course.

But the NBA, or perhaps it was TNT’s idea since they televise the weekend, has stepped up another notch this year. They are adding in a three player game of H-O-R-S-E to this year’s festivities. Yes, the driveway favorite that just about everyone on the planet has played. Three NBA players taking on one another in trick shots. Sounds like a great idea to me. The field hasn’t been announced yet, I just heard of the event today, but we should know soon who will be participating.
