Early NFL Action

The early games are in the books in Week 8 in the NFL.  The two biggest developments are the Titans moving to 8-0 with their overtime win over the Packers and the Bengals getting their first win of the year over the Jaguars (which is helpful to Weller’s Colts). I knew they wouldn’t go 0-16; they were an unlucky 0-8 to this point.  If a few more bounces had gone their way, they could have beaten Baltimore in Week 1, the New York Giants in Week 3, and Cleveland in Week 5. The only winless team is now the Detroit Lions and they tried their hardest to beat the Bears.  Then they realized they were the Lions and let the Rex Grossman-led Bears make a valiant comeback.  Though, now that I’ve said that, I’m not sure a comeback against the Lions can be classified as valiant.

Tampa Bay just completed a big come back on the Chiefs to win in overtime and the Cardinals may have all but locked up a playoff birth in the atrocious NFC West by crushing my Rams 34-13. Just when I thought Jim Haslett was giving us some hope.

In the other early games, the Jets upended the once-good Bills 26-17.  For some reason, the good folks here in mid-Missouri got this game on TV.  I didn’t watch any of it because I really don’t care.  I’m sure the Chiefs fans were pretty unhappy though.

Baltimore beat Cleveland by 10 and Minnesota topped the Texas by 7.  Ray Rice rushed for 154 yards for the Ravens.  Really, Ray Rice of the Ravens rushed right…nicely, I guess.

Anyway, that’s all for now.  The afternoon games are well under way with the best matchup on paper being the Cowboys and Giants.  Right now, the Giants are making the Boys looks bad after marching down the field on their first possession for a TD.  As I type this, Corey Webster just picked off Brad Johnson and returned it deep into Dallas territory.  Maybe this won’t be the best game.
