Peyton Manning ranks third all-time in passes completed, passing touchdowns, and passing yards, with Brett Favre ranking first in all three, and Dan Marino second. Favre and Marino also rank first and second, respectively, in passes attempted, with John Elway third and Manning fourth.
I’m going to take a look at each of these four statistical categories and see what exactly it will take for Manning to catch Favre and Marino. I’m going to ignore Elway’s passing attempts, because he’s only 40 ahead of Manning, which could easily be accomplished in the first game of the 2012 season, and would be surprising if it didn’t happen during the second game. As everyone knows, Brett Favre has retired and then not retired and is now in limbo for what seems like the 900th time. However, for this installment of WMD (Weller’s Musing and Divination) I’m going to be assuming that Mr. Indecisive is actually staying retired and won’t be returning. I realize that it’s a coin-flip and is really anybody’s guess at this point but just bare with me. I’m making this assumption so that we can take a peek into the future to see how far off -both quantitatively and in terms of time- Peyton would be/will be/is from breaking all of the major NFL career passing records if/when/now that Favre retires/has retired – I figure that if he can be indecisive when it comes to returning or retiring then I should follow suit and be just as indecisive with the tense of my verbs.

This is huge. Peyton got his record setting fourth NFL regular season MVP award. It’s reported that he got 39.5 of the 50 total votes. Drew Brees was second with 7.5, Philip Rivers got two and Brett Favre got one and Chris Johnson got none. This is huge. Nobody in NFL history has ever won this award four times and Peyton still has a whole lot of good years left in front of him. It’s not out of the question for him to win this award two more times, and I’d actually be surprised if he didn’t get one more. Continue reading

I’m not a fan of Usain Bolt, and I’m pretty convinced he’s on some sort of performance enhancer, but I suppose this is news I should put up on the site. He ran the 200 meter dash today in 19.19 seconds, breaking the previous world record of 19.30. I’m not going to say any more about it because I don’t like him. You can read the ESPN article here. You can also read another post about Bold that Bryan wrote a couple of days ago by clicking here.
